Position: Child Care Assistant - School Age Program
Status: Full-time position with benefits
Start Date: July 7, 2025
Location: Rainbow Day Nursery - Phase 4 (255 Vermillion Road)
Rate of Pay: Commensurate with experience, starting at $19.40 per hour with 40-hour training, or $15.30 without
Hours/Schedule: Eight hours per day, Monday to Friday on a varying schedule including split shifts. Schedules may vary and candidates must be available to work all shifts within the centre's operating hours (7:00 am to 5:30 pm, Monday to Friday).
Staff receive a 45 minute paid break. If working a split shift, staff are scheduled to be working on the floor for 7.25 hours. Hours will be determined on the needs of the program and may change without notice.
General Description:
Working with a strong team including the program Supervisor, co-workers, family, Assistant Director, Circle of Security facilitator and other behavior specialists, the Child Care Assistant will provide support to our School Age program.
This program consists of 40 school age children, ages 5 to 12 years old (Kinder-Grade 6). Rainbow practices the Circle of Security philosophy and training is offered within the center. The chosen candidate must be able to offer a safe place for children to express feelings and emotions in a fun learning environment. Our program offers children transportation to and from school by centre vehicle. Specific Responsibilities:
Provide a safe, caring and educational environment
Provide additional support within the program to help co-regulate children with additional support needs
Observe and anticipate children’s triggers and offer tools to help regulate (e.g. deep breathing techniques, fidget gadgets, offering safe places, sensory exploration, etc.)
Participate in daily bus runs/school pick-up/drop-off
Other duties as assigned
Qualifications
Positive attitude with lots of energy and creativity
Works well independently and as part of a team
Familiarity with emergent curriculum/play-based approach
Familiarity with Circle of Security philosophy an asset but not required; candidate must be able to offer a safe place for children to express feelings and emotions
Ability to take initiative and think outside the box
Eligible candidates must obtain/provide:
CCA classification prior to start date
First Aid/CPR prior to start date
Current Criminal/Child Abuse Check
Center-provided Circle of Security training
40-hour child development course completed within the first year of employment
Class 4 driver's license an asset but not required
