Position: Child Care Assistant (School Age program)
Status: Term contract expiring September 2026 with possible extension
Start Date: ASAP
Location: Rainbow Day Nursery - Phase 3 (445 Island Shore Blvd)
Rate of Pay: $19.97 per hour with 40-hour training, or $16.00 without.
Hours/Schedule: School days - 6 hours per day on split shift (7:30-10:30 am/2:15-5:15 pm); in-service days - 8 hours per day, alternating open and closing shifts. Schedules may vary. Candidates must be available to work all shifts within centre operating hours (7:00 am to 5:30 pm, Monday to Friday).
General Description:
Working with a strong team including the program Supervisor, co-workers, family, Assistant Director, Circle of Security facilitator and other behavior specialists, the Child Care Assistant will provide support to our School age program, which consists of 19 children aged 5-12 years of age.
Specific Responsibilities:
Provide a safe, caring and educational environment
Assist ECEs with daily routines and curriculum
Provide additional support within the program to help co-regulate children with additional support needs
Observe and anticipate children’s triggers and offer tools to help regulate (e.g. deep breathing techniques, fidget gadgets, offering safe places, sensory exploration, etc.)
Other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
Familiarity with emergent curriculum/play-based approach
Familiarity with Circle of Security philosophy an asset but not required
Ability to take initiative and think outside the box
Eligible candidates must obtain/provide:
CCA classification
First Aid/CPR
Current Criminal/Child Abuse Check
Centre-provided Circle of Security training
40-hour child development course completed within the first year of employment
Commit to Kids certificate
